À cette époque, la formation originaire de Pennsylvanie frappe juste là où le rock post-grunge commençait à s’essouffler. Benjamin Burnley, voix et âme du groupe, transforme ses démons personnels en matière première. Il ne théâtralise jamais sa douleur, il la rend tangible, palpable. Vingt ans plus tard, il suffit de relancer « Phobia » pour comprendre pourquoi il reste un pilier du rock moderne : parce qu’il ne cherche pas la perfection, mais la vérité. Le disque parle de nos fractures, de nos angoisses collectives et individuelles, avec une sincérité brute. En le réécoutant aujourd’hui, on réalise combien la musique de BREAKING BENJAMIN a su traverser les époques sans se trahir. Et cette année, l’histoire se poursuit sur scène : la formation sera en tournée en Europe cet été, avec une date très attendue en France, le 07 juillet prochain, pour célébrer ce vingtième anniversaire comme il se doit.
