Interview Joe (Evil Invaders)

Evil Invaders est probablement le meilleur groupe de Thrash qui sévit chez nos voisins belges. J’ai eu la chance, à l’occasion de la sortie de leur troisième album, de m’entretenir avec Joe, le chanteur-guitariste de la bande.

Interview:

Moi: Hey Joe ! Thanks for your time. My first question and for me is most important: How are you ?
(Salut Joe ! Merci pour ton temps. Ma première question et pour moi c’est la plus importante: Comment tu vas ?)

Joe: Fine (Laugh). We are working at the preparation of the release party at 2nd April
(Bien. Nous travaillons sur la release party du 2 Avril)

Moi: It is your Third album ?
(C’est ton troisième album ?)

J: Yep
(Ouais)

M: For me, it is a masterpiece, i love it
(Pour moi, c’est un chef d’œuvre, je l’adore)
J: Thank you very much
(Merci beaucoup)

M: What is your inspiration for this one ?
(Quelles ont été tes inspirations pour celui là ?)

J: There are a lot of inspiration on this record. Everybody in the band put some sounds of their favorites bands: You’ve got some Metal Church, Quennryshe, Exodus, Motorhead… There is a lot of sound. Basicaly it’s cool because, the other guys listen to old school Death Metal, stuff like that. So we have a big variation and we have create something new. For example, Max play some old school Death Metal riffs, very aggresive but then i don’t grown with that kind of sound. I’m in …a kind of mixture, you know, who remind you eighties and early nineties sounds.
(Y’en a pas mal. Tout le monde dans le groupe voulait mettre du son de ses groupes préférés: Tu as du Metal Church, Queenryshe, Exodus, Motorhead… De base, c’est cool parce que les autres écoutent beaucoup de Death Metal Old School, des trucs comme ça. Donc nous avons eu une grosse variation et avons créé quelque chose de nouveau. Par exemple, Max joue des riffs de Death Metal très agressifs mais, moi, je n’ai pas grandis avec ce genre de son. Je suis dans…une sorte de mixture, tu vois, qui rappelle le sons des années 80/90.)

M: And are you a fan of Judas Priest ?
(Est-tu un fan de Judas Priest ?)

J: Oh, definitly ! It is of my main influence

(Carrément ! C’est une de mes principales influences )

M: Because the first single you’ve released, « In deepest Black », remind me the voice of Rob Halford

(Parce que le premier single que vous avez sorti, « In deepest Black », me rappelle la voix de Rob Halford)

J:Oh, thank you ! It’s a big compliment. That’s funny because many peoples found something of Judas Priest in this one, but other peoples there is something of Sanctuary. I think this is cool because all of these bands are bands i like.

(Oh, merci ! C’est un gros compliment. C’est marrant parce que beaucoup de gens ont trouvé quelque chose de Judas Priest dans celle là, mais d’autres du Sanctuary. Je trouve ça cool parce que ce sont tous des groupes que j’aime)

M: You are a fan of eighties Thrash Metal, but what is your favorite band ?

(Tu es un fan de Thrash Metal des années 80, mais quel est ton groupe favori ?)

J:Definitly, Exodus

(Exodus)

M: And about Exodus, i would to ask you a question: In the song « My world », it is the voice of Zetro ?

(Tant qu’on est sur Exodus, j’ai une autre question à te poser: Dans la chanson « My world », est-ce que c’est la voix de Zetro ?)

J:Oh no, it is the voice of Max, our guitarist. I think it’s really like him. Actually, this song should be sing by me, but Max recorded this one. I have wrote some lyrics and say to him « Can you sing something in this style ? » and finally it’s sounds very cool. I try to singing it like him, but it is not my type of voice.

(Oh non, c’est la voix de Max, notre guitariste. Je trouve que leurs voix se ressemblent. En fait, cette chanson devait être chantée par moi, mais Max l’a enregistré. J’ai écrit quelques paroles et je lui ai demandé « Tu peux chanter quelque chose dans ce style ? » et au final ça a sonné très bien. J’essaie de la chanter comme lui mais je n’ai pas ce type de voix)

M: What is your favorite track on this album ?

(Quel est ton morceau préféré sur cet album ?)

J: »Forgotten memories ». It’s something different for me. It’s a important song… It’s hard ’cause i like all the songs.

(« Forgotten memories ». Y’a quelque chose de différent pour moi. C’est une chanson importante…Mais après, c’est dur car j’aime toutes les chansons.)

M: My, personnaly, is « Die for me », cause i think it is a little more …epic, you know what i mean…

(Ma préférée est « Die for me », car je trouve qu’elle est un peu plus…épique, si tu vois ce que je veux dire…)

J: Yeah, a little more catchy

(Ouais, un peu plus « catchy »)

M: And my second is « The circle ». I think there is a other atmosphere in this one. Right ?

(Et la seconde est « The Circle ». Je trouve qu’il y a une atmosphère différente dans celle là. Non ?)

J: Totally. We have tried many versions for this one. And finally, i love the final result.

(Carrément. On a essayé beaucoup de versions différentes pour celle là. Et au final, j’adore le résultat final)

M: The album’s release party is the 2nd April. You will play with Cyclone and Schizophrenia. Have you already play with them ? (La release party de l’album est le deux Avril. Tu vas jouer avec Cyclone et Schizophrenia. T’as déjà joué avec eux ?)

J: Yeah, we’ve already played an entire tour. And the guys of Schizophrenia are very big friends of mine. But we have never play with Cyclone. It’s gonna be excitting ’cause is a band of 80’ies Thrash metal.

(Ouais, on a déjà fait une tournée. Et les gars de Schizophrenia sont de très grands amis. On a jamais joué avec Cyclone. Ça va être excitant car c’est un groupe de pur Thrash Metal des années 80)

M: I’ve saw you and Cyclone last year for the first time at Alcatraz. How was this festival for you ?

(Je vous ai vus, vous et Cyclone la première fois l’an dernier au festival Alcatraz. Comment était le festival pour toi ?)

J: Amazing. I was so stoked to play there. Specially ’cause it was in the middle of the Corona crisis.

(Incroyable. J’étais si impatient d’y jouer. Spécialement car c’était au beau milieu de la crise Corona)

M: And what is your best memories on stage ?

(Et quels sont tes meilleurs souvenirs sur scène ?)

J:I remember playing a show in Brazil in a really small club and the public was super intense. We’ve got many problems with our instruments but the public was so hungry for the music.

(Je me rappelle qu’on a fait un show au Brésil dans un tout petit club et l’audience était vraiment intense. On a eu beaucoup de problèmes avec nos instruments mais le public avait faim de musique)

M: And in France ?

(Et en France ?)

J: Good question. I remember playing in Motocultor, it was very cool. Lot of fun there, also in the backstage drinking a lot. We’ve also played in Paris on a Boat.

(Bonne question. Je me rappelle d’avoir joué au Motocultor, c’était très cool. On s’est bien marrés et on a aussi bien picolé. On a aussi joué à Paris sur un bateau.)

M: And for your next tour, have you some shows in France?

(Et pour la prochaine tournée, vous avez des dates en France ?)

J: Not for the moment. We hoped.

(Pas pour le moment, mais on espère)

M: Who’s your favorite artist in music ?

(Qui est ton artiste musical favori ?)

J: Actually, my favorite band is Motorhead. But my favorite singer was Midnight from Crimson Glory. For the guitar, i prefer Chris Oliva from Savatage.

(Pour le moment, mon groupe préféré est Motorhead. Mais mon chanteur préféré était Midnight, de Crimson Glory. Et pour la guitare, je préfère Chris Oliva de Savatage.)

M: Do you listen some french bands ?

(T’écoutes des groupes français ?)

J: Not a lot but i remember Killers, it’s a old Speed Metal band.

(Pas beaucoup mais je me rappelle que j’aime bien Killers, c’est un vieux groupe de Speed Metal)

M: What about Hexecutor ?

(Et Hexecutor ?)

J: Oh yeah ! They are really cool. We’ve played some shows with them.

(Oh ouais ! Ils sont très cool ! Nous avons déjà joué ensemble plusieurs fois)

M: Joe, thanks for your time. Hope to see you soon on stage.

J: Thanks, dude, see you !
