Relecture: Victor
Une interview que je n’imaginais pas faire un jour. J’ai découvert F.K.Ü. lors d’une froide nuit d’hiver ou mon morale était très bas. Le quartet à su me remettre d’aplomb à la première écoute. J’ai poussé le vice jusqu’à écouter l’intégrale de leur discographie. Et quelques années plus tard, me procurer l’intégralité en CD/Vinyle. Pour les non-connaisseurs, F.K.Ü. est un groupe de Thrash Metal parlant essentiellement du thème de l’horreur. Comment je ne pouvais pas être conquis ? Leur album 1981 fait d’ailleurs partie de mon Top 5 niveau album. C’est après avoir pris mon courage à deux mains que je me suis décidé à contacter le groupe via mail pour savoir si une interview était possible. Et, p*****, oui ! Un énorme merci à Larry pour ce moment génial ! Moshoholic for ever !
INTERVIEW:
Moi : Ok,we are with Larry Lethal from F.K.Ü. First question, and for me, it is the most important one : How are you ?
(Ok, on est avec Larry Lethal de F.K.Ü. Première question, et pour moi, c’est la plus importante : Comment tu vas?)
Larry : I’m great, thank you very much !
(Je vais bien, merci beaucoup!)
M : You play in a band named F.K.Ü. which means Freddy Krueger Underpants, right ?
(Tu joues dans un groupe nommé F.K.Ü., pour Freddy Krueger Underpants (Le slip de Freddy Krueger), c’est ça?)
L : Yes, but we don’t use this name anymore. The correct is Freddy Krueger Underwear
(Oui, mais on n’utilise plus ce nom désormais. Le vrai est Les sous-vêtements de Freddy Krueger)
M : You gonna release a new single this Friday (NDLR : Vendredi 13 Octobre). What can you tell me about this one ?
(Vous allez sortir un nouveau single ce Vendredi. Que peux-tu nous dire dessus?)
L : Originally, we will gonna start making the album in early 2020. And everybody knows what happened… But now, the album is finally done. Gonna be release on February, next year. And this Friday, we gonna release the first single, and the title track is the title track of the album : The Horror and the Metal. The reason is we’ve thinking about if we wanna make a cool theme or a cool concept for this album, cause’ the last album, 1981, is only about movies. Horror Movies. You know, the lyrics. So, we have thinking about it : Make that kind of concept once again ? No ! Let just tell everybody what this band is about. We just wanna call it « The Horror and the Metal », and that’s it ! So this single is coming out on Friday, we have a video for it. Seeing the people reaction. It’s gonna be an exciting day !
(A la base, on a commencé à faire l’album en début 2020. Et tout le monde sait ce qu’il s’est passé… Mais maintenant, l’album est enfin terminé. Il sortira en Février, l’année prochaine. Et ce Vendredi, nous allons sortir le premier single, et le titre et aussi celui de l’album : The Horror and the Metal. La raison est que nous avons pensé au fait que soit nous faisons un thème cool, ou un concept, car le dernier album 1981, ne parle que de films d’horreur. Regarde les paroles. Donc on a dû réfléchir à ça : On refait ce genre de concept ? Non ! Nous allons montrer aux gens ce qu’est notre groupe. Nous voulions juste l’appeler The Horror and the Metal car c’est ce que nous faisons ! Donc le single sortira ce Vendredi, nous avons un clip. On verra la réaction des gens. Ca va être un jour excitant)
M : So your band talk about Horror movies and Metal ! (Laughs) But what is your favorite movie ?
(Donc ton groupe parle de film d’horreur et de Metal!(Rires)Mais quels sont tes films favoris?)
L : Oh… Well, I have…it keeps changing, but, I have my big 4. The first is « Nightmare on Elm Street », the first « Evil Dead », « Shining » the original, and the original « Texas Chainsaw Massacre ». I’m never sick about theses movies !
(Oh… Et bien, y’a… ça change en permanence, mais mon big 4. Le premier est « Les griffes de la nuit », le premier « Evil Dead », « Shining » l’original et Massacre à la tronçonneuse, l’original. Jamais j’en aurais marre de les voir !)
M : And about your favorite Metal bands ?
(Et concernant tes groupes de Metal favoris?)
L : I listen to so much Metal. I work for a Metal label (Despotz Records) as a producer. But, what I think about that, Death and Thrash Metal is anchored in my heart. My favorite Thrash album of all time is Slayer, Reign in Blood / Exodus, Bonded by Blood / The first S.O.D. album / And a Swedish band called Agony who released an album in the late 80’ies called The First Defiance. It is the big 4 for me.
(J’en écoute beaucoup. Je travaille dans un label de musique Metal (Despotz Records) comme producteur. Mais ce que je peux te dire, c’est que le Death et le Thrash sont ancrés dans mon cœur. M : Do you listen some new Thrash bands ?
(Tu écoutes des nouveaux groupes de Thrash?)
L : Yeah. I mean, I keep an eye on it. There are so many cool bands. We played with an awesome band a couple of years ago in Germany, Space Chaser. They are awesome. There is also the Swedish band Tyranex. I really like them !
(Ouais. Enfin, je garde un œil dessus. Y’a tellement de groupes cool. Nous avons joué avec un groupe génial il y a quelques années en Allemagne, Space Chaser. Ils sont géniaux. Il y a aussi le groupe suédois Tyranex. Je les apprécie vraiment)
M : Do you listen some french Metal bands ?
(Tu écoutes des groupes de metal français?)
L : Hm…I don’t know many french bands. I mean, back in the day, there were bands like Mercyless, and it is the way I’ve started to listen to Death Metal. But I’m not a fan of the big ones. I prefer the smaller bands. I like to discover new bands. Do you know any cool bands in France ?
(Hm… Je n’en connais pas beaucoup. J’veux dire, avant, il y avait des groupes comme Mercyless et c’est de cette manière que j’ai commencé à écouter du Death Metal. Mais je ne suis pas fan des gros groupes. Je préfère les petits. J’adore découvrir de nouveaux groupes. Tu connais des groupes français cool?)
M : Yeah. Hexecutor, Heart Attack, Breakhead, (NDLR : La liste est longue, donc je passe)
(Ouais. Hexecutor, Heart Attack, Breakhead,...)
L : We have never played in France…I never know if Thrash is very popular. We have played in Belgium and Germany and there are a lot of Thrash bands from these countries. The only thing I know about French Metal, is the Hellfest Festival and Motocultor. We are going to try to make more live shows in a couple of years.
(Nous n’avons jamais joué en France… Je ne sais jamais si le Thrash est très populaire. Nous avons joué en Belgique et en Allemagne et il y a pas mal de groupes de Thrash dans ces pays. La seule chose que je connais sur le Metal français, c’est le Hellfest et le Motocultor Festival. On va essayer de faire plus de live shows d’ici quelques années)
M : Are there any shows planned after the release of your album? ?
(Des concerts de prévus après la sortie de votre album?)
L : We have a big show in Stockholm. But we are looking more at shows for early next year, and for the summer. We’re working on it, but nothing is announced. Next year is gonna be the main touring and playing for F.K.Ü. We hope to do more shows with this album. Everybody is really into this new album, you know. Everybody wants to play as much as possible. And we’ve got some new connections with partners we have working with. Like booking. It’s gonna be a good year.
(Nous en avons un gros en fin de mois à Stockholm. Mais nous recherchons plus des shows pour le début d’année prochaine et l’été prochain. On y travaille, mais rien n’est encore annoncé. L’année prochaine sera la plus grosse concernant les shows pour F.K.Ü. On espère en faire plus avec cet album. Tous les membres sont vraiment à fond dans cet album, tu sais. Tout le monde veut jouer le plus possible. Et nous avons de nouvelles connexions avec certains partenaires. Pour le booking par exemple. Ca va être une bonne année)
M : In which years the band has been created ?
(En quelle année le groupe a été créé?)
L : There are 2 dates. Because the band started playing/writing/recording/playing live in 1997. But the band originally formed in 1987. Because Pete and Pat, the guitar and bass player, wanted to have a band with this style of music, Bay area Thrash crossed with the East Coast, New York Crossover. With bands like S.O.D. ,Carnivore,… But nobody else wanted to have a band like that, so they said « We have a band name and we’re trying to get some guys ». And they met me in 1996, when I moved to their hometown. « So maybe, now, we can start the band for real ! »
(Il y a deux dates. Parce que le groupe a commencé à vraiment jouer/écrire/enregistrer/jouer en live en 1997. Mais le groupe fut formé de base en 1987. Parce que Pete et Pat, le guitariste et le bassiste, voulait avoir un groupe avec ce style de musique, la Bay Area Thrash croisée avec le Crossover de la côte Est. Avec des groupes comme S.O.D., Carnivore,… Mais personne d’autre ne voulait d’un groupe comme ça, alors ils ont dit « On a un nom de groupe et on va essayer de recruter de nouveaux membres ». Et il m’ont rencontré en 1996, quand j’ai emménagé dans leur ville. « Peut être qu’on vraiment lancer le groupe maintenant ! »
M : What is your best memories on stage ?
(Quels sont tes meilleurs souvenirs sur scène?)
L : Hm… It would be, so far, the biggest festival in Sweden, called Sweden Rock Fest, and it’s very big over here. We played here the first time in 2011, I think, or in 2010. But, we haven’t really played on that kind of stage, in a really big show like that before. It was the first day of the festival, we were just the second band, so we didn’t know if the people were going to be there. It was just the opening of the gates and, finally a thousand of people were here, angry for Metal ! Another good memory, it was in 2007, in an old Punk house in San Francisco, and it was like, you know, there are no rules : People were stage diving from behind the stage ! A crazy Mosh party ! That was super cool, in a very different way. A small stage but a very great party !
(Hm… Ce serait, de loin, le plus gros festival en Suède, appelé le Sweden Rock Fest, et il est très grand. Nous y avons joué la première fois en 2011, je crois, ou en 2010. Mais, nous n’avions jamais joué sur ce genre de scène auparavant, dans un très gros évènement. C’était le premier jour du festival, nous étions le second groupe a jouer, donc on ne savait pas si le monde serait au rendez-vous. Les portes venaient juste de s’ouvrir et, au final, c’était des milliers de personnes qui étaient là, en manque de Metal ! Un autre bon souvenir, c’était en 2007, dans un vieux repère Punk à San Francisco, et c’était comme si il n’y avait pas de règles, tu vois : Les gens se jetaient de la scène ! Une Mosh Party de dingue ! C’était super cool, mais d’une façon différente. Une petite scène mais une super fiesta!)
M : Is there somewhere you’d like to play? ?
(Y’a t’il un endroit où tu voudrais jouer?)
L : Not really. We just want to take every gig we can get. We wanna just play more. So there are too many places. We never played in France, maybe going to the Hellfest… We never played in big festivals like Wacken and stuff like that. Really aiming to do that. Or shows in Japan too. Just play there with as many people as possible.
(Nous n’en avons pas. On veut juste prendre tous les concerts qui s’offrent à nous. On veut juste jouer plus. Donc il y a tellement de lieux. Nous n’avons jamais joué en France, peut être aller au Hellfest… Nous n’avons jamais joué dans deux gros festivals comme le Wacken, ou un truc du même style. On va vraiment essayer d’atteindre ça. Ou des concerts au Japon. Juste jouer là ou il y a le plus de monde)
