STARSET est originaire de Columbus en OHIO et est connu pour ses performances scéniques et musicales dans différentes sonorités.
STARSET n’a suivi aucun chemin si ce n’est le sien, unique. Ce groupe de rock cinématographique (parfois rattaché au hard rock, rock alternatif et nu métal) est véritablement ancré depuis juillet 2013 au travers du premier single « Carnivore » suivi de l’incontournable « My Demons ». Le premier album voit le jour en été 2014 sous le nom de « Transmission » et regroupe 13 titres dont aucun n’a à rougir, si ce n’est de plaisir.

This cinematic rock group (sometimes linked to hard rock, alternative rock and nu metal) has been truly anchored since July 2013 through the first single “Carnivore” followed by the essential “My Demons”. 3 ans et demi plus tard, STARSET assomme l’univers musical avec l’album « Vessel » et ses 15 titres aux rythmes, textes et voix impressionnants. La mixité des styles, allant de la sensualité de « Starlight » au lacérant « Everglow » confirme la performance et le charisme du groupe mené par le chanteur Dustin Bates. Il n’en faudra pas plus pour que, on s’excuse du peu, Breaking Benjamin vienne collaborer plus tard avec lui sur le titre « Waiting on the sky to Change », c’est dire…
De cet album ressort, pour les plus chansons les plus « appréciées » selon divers échanges, les titres de « Monsters » et « Die For You ».
3 and a half years later, STARSET stunned the musical universe with the album “Vessel” and its 15 tracks with impressive rhythms, lyrics and voices. The mix of styles, ranging from the sensuality of “Starlight” to the lacerating “Everglow” confirms the performance and charisma of the group led by singer Dustin Bates. It won’t take much for Breaking Benjamin to later collaborate with him on the title « Waiting on the sky to Change ». From this album stands out, for the most « liked » songs according to various exchanges, the titles of « Monsters » and « Die For You ».
De mon côté, je souligne en plus la collaboration du batteur Glenn Mungo du groupe LANSDOWNE (à découvrir de toute urgence !!!) découvert en première partie de RED et qui a créé la vidéo d’animation (une de ses toutes premières) de la chanson « Back to the Earth », produite avec sa Société, la « Mungo Creative Group ». L’objectif était de donner vie à la vision du chanteur de manière amusante et ludique. Le pari a largement été remporté !
For my part, I also would like to highlight the collaboration of the drummer Glenn Mungo from the band LANSDOWNE (to discover urgently !!!) discovered as the opening act for RED and who created the animated video (one of his very first) of the song « Back to the Earth », produced with his Company « Mungo Creative Group ». The goal was to bring the singer’s vision to life in a fun and playful way. The bet was largely won!
STARSET confirme plus que largement sa place dans le monde musical, envahissant les scènes et les festivals. Le groupe a posé son univers atypique dans différents points du globe, des USA au Japon. Il en ressort indéniablement une unanimité de tout horizon, les tournées s’enchainent sans un seul raté.
C’est le 13 décembre 2019 que sortira le troisième album « Divisions » qui surprendra son public avec ses 13 titres. Les sonorités se veulent volontairement différentes mais quelle claque ! Là encore, les styles s’affranchissent de tout carcan passant de « Manifest » à « Trials » ou encore du « Other Worlds Than These » à « Diving Bell ». Sur scène, la chanson « Trial » est magistrale. Les messages passent car rien, aucun texte n’est écrit au hasard.
STARSET more than largely confirms its place in the musical world, invading stages and festivals. The group has set its atypical universe in different parts of the globe, from the USA to Japan. What emerges is undeniable unanimity from all walks of life, the tours follow one another without a single failure. The third album “Divisions” will be released on December 13, 2019, which will surprise its audience with its 13 tracks. The sounds are deliberately different but what a slap in the face! Here again, the styles free themselves from any shackles, going from »Manifest » to « Trials » or « Other Worlds Than These » to « Diving Bell ». On stage, the song “Trial” is masterful. The messages get through because nothing, no text is written randomly.
Le 22 octobre 2021 voit apparaître 16 nouveaux titres sur le dernier (à ce jour) album du groupe, « Horizon ». Il m’est vraiment très difficile de n’en citer que quelques uns tellement ils me font écho, toutes à leur façon. On peut néanmoins retenir pour le plus grand nombre, satané coïncidence, le titre « Infected » écrit dans le cadre de la célébration des deux ans du jeu vidéo Arknights. Une grande partie du répertoire du groupe STARSET abordant les thèmes de l’isolement et de la nostalgie avec une vision futuriste du monde était donc une évidence dans l’écriture de ce titre pour un jeu à l’univers postapocalyptique et dystopique. Le rapprochement avec la COVID (quasiment même période) est saisissante mais il n’en est rien…
Un autre titre « Something Wicked » (dont le titre me renvoie naïvement à l’oeuvre de Ray Bradburry) est une pure merveille.
October 22, 2021 sees the release of 16 new tracks on the band’s latest (to date) album, « Horizon ». It is really very difficult for me to name just a few because they resonate with me, all in their own way. We can nevertheless remember for the majority, damn coincidence, the title « Infected » written as part of the celebration of the two years of the video game Arknights. A large part of the STARSET band’s repertoire addressing themes of isolation and nostalgia with a futuristic vision of the world was therefore obvious in the writing of this title for a game with a postapocalyptic and dystopian universe. The connection with COVID (almost the same period) is striking but it is not the case… Another track « Something Wicked » (whose title naively refers me to the work of Ray Bradburry) is a pure marvel.
La tournée décalée cause COVID de « Horizon Tour » a emmené STARSET à Paris et leur présence a été plus qu’acclamée le 06 mars 2023 à l’Elysée Montmartre.
Ce fut d’ailleurs, pour Célia et moi-même, notre premier concert en étant accréditées pour MAD BREIZH PRODUCTION via VERYSHOW qui auront tous deux mon éternelle reconnaissance (l’évolution des photos est indéniable depuis, ah émotion quand tu me submerges…)… Ce jour là, plus rien n’a été pareil. Et c’est tant mieux ! La vie est revenue…
The COVID-related tour of « Horizon Tour » took STARSET to Paris and their presence was more than acclaimed on March 6, 2023 at the Elysée Montmartre. It was also, for Célia and myself, our first concert and live report being accredited for MAD BREIZH PRODUCTION via VERYSHOW who will both have my eternal gratitude (the evolution of the photos is undeniable since then)… That day, nothing was the same. And that’s good ! Life has returned…
STARSET, c’est donc des textes et un univers majoritairement orientés vers l’exploration et la conquête spatiale sur les premiers albums, puis STARSET s’est orienté, sans perdre son fil conducteur, sur des thématiques de type SF, mettant en avant la partie sombre des dérives de l’évolution technologique qui mènent droit vers des sociétés dystopiques.

Le clap de fin des livres « The PROX Transmission » suivi du dernier tome « A Brief History of the Future » sortie en début d’année 2024 en lien avec les premiers albums annonce dorénavant l’arrivée d’une nouvelle ère musicale toujours aussi prometteuse comme vont le témoigner les deux récentes sorties sur les plates formes.
The end clap of the books « The PROX Transmission » followed by the last volume « A Brief History of the Future » released at the beginning of 2024 in conjunction with the first albums now announces the arrival of a new musical era that is still as promising as will be demonstrated by the two recent releases on the platforms.
Le 02 mai de cette année, STARSET nous a tous surpris avec la sortie de l’époustouflant « Brave New World » (dont le titre me fait penser au roman d’anticipation dystopique d’Aldous Huxkey) avec des sonorités bien plus métalliques agrémenté d’un clip sans équivoque… C’est plus lourd, plus intense, plus sombre…
On May 2 of this year, STARSET surprised us all with the release of the breathtaking “Brave New World” (whose title makes me think of the dystopian anticipation novel by Aldous Huxkey) with much more metallic sounds enhanced with an unequivocal music video… It’s heavier, more intense, darker…
Et histoire de bien enfoncer le clou, STARSET frappe à nouveau le 05 juillet 2024 avec le titre « Degenerate » que l’on peut découvrir en ligne. Scotchée par à la réalité sans appel de ce dernier, à la limite nauséeuse par tant de réalité. Je ne dis rien et vous laisse le découvrir.
And just to drive the point home, STARSET strikes again on July 5, 2024 with the title “Degenerate” which can be discovered online. Stuck by the clear reality of the latter, almost nauseated by so much reality. I won’t say anything and let you figure it out.
A cette occasion, STARSET a revisité ses costumes de scènes et pour avoir vu quelques extraits de prestations sur internet en Amérique, ça envoie du lourd !
On this occasion, STARSET revisited its stage costumes and having seen some extracts from performances on the internet in America, it’s really impressive!
Bref, vous l’aurez compris, je barre chaque jour le calendrier comme le prisonnier qui attend sa liberté, cette soirée qui ne saura être autre chose qu’exceptionnelle.
De notre côté, j’ai posé mes congés à mon travail, les places VIP, les places de concerts, l’hôtel et le train, tout est calé depuis l’annonce de leur venue, le 11 avril 2024.
Nous patientons « tranquillement » le retour d’accréditation photo et presse pour couvrir d’un fabuleux live report cette expérience qui me fera, j’en suis déjà sûre, couler les larmes…
In short, you will have understood, I cross off the calendar every day like the prisoner waiting for his freedom, this evening which cannot be anything other than exceptional. For our part, I took my leave from work, the VIP, the concert tickets, the hotel and the train. Everything has been scheduled since the announcement of their arrival, on April 11, 2024.
