RED IN PARIS D-DAY

Dimanche 23 juin 2024, sans alarme, nous nous levons et avalons notre petit déjeuner rapidement avant de remettre les clefs à notre voisine qui s’occupera de nos animaux en notre absence. Son mari nous sert de chauffeur jusqu’à la gare de Nantes pour attraper le train Ouigo (petit budget oblige) qui nous mènera à Montparnasse pour ce concert tellement attendu.

Sunday June 23, 2024, without alarm, we get up and eat our breakfast quickly before handing over the keys to our neighbor who will take care of our animals in our absence. Her husband serves as our driver to the Nantes station to take the Ouigo train (low budget required) which will take us to Montparnasse for this long-awaited concert.

Voyage sans encombre si ce n’est un voyageur qui crachait ses poumons et que je maudis au moment où j’écris ces mots car il est très probablement responsable de mon étrange état santé qui perdure depuis une semaine (punaise les masques mec, ce n’est pas que pendant la COVID)…

Travel without incident except for a traveler who was coughing up his lungs and whom I am cursing as I write these words because he is very probably responsible for my strange state of health which has persisted for a week (damn the masks man, it was not just during the COVID era)...

Nous arrivons à Paris aux alentours de 13h et ayant du temps à cramer, on décide de se poser dans un café juste en face de notre gare où l’on s’est offert un café Viennois avant de partir à l’hôtel déposer nos bagages et s’allonger en mode larve sur le lit une bonne vingtaine de minutes. 

We arrived in Paris around 1 p.m. and having time to burn, we decided to stop in a café right in front of our station where we treated ourselves to a Viennese coffee before heading to the hotel to drop off our luggage. and lie down in larva mode on the bed for a good twenty minutes.

Nous étions déjà descendu dans cet hôtel et le personnel nous a reconnu et touché quelques mots sympathiques tant sur notre dernière venue (concert en novembre de Smash Into Pieces, live-report à lire sur Mad Breizh Production) que sur les raisons de celle-ci. Mémoire d’éléphant ou note dans le logiciel qu’importe, c’est toujours plaisant d’avoir un accueil personnalisé!

We had already stayed at this hotel and the staff recognized us and said a few friendly words both about our last visit (concert in November for Smash Into Pieces, live report to read on Mad Breizh Production) and about the reasons for it . Elephant memory or note in the software, it doesn't matter, it's always nice to have a personalized welcome!

RETROUVAILLE DE LA TEAM À PARIS PETIT BAIN

REUNION OF THE TEAM IN PARIS PETIT BAIN

Aux alentours de 17h, on se prépare pour rejoindre le Petit Bain, péniche évènementielle d’environ 450 places, où vont se produire nos deux groupes Américains.

Around 5 p.m., we prepare to join the Petit Bain, an event barge with around 450 seats, where our two American groups will perform tonight.

Après une bonne vingtaine de minutes de marche, on tombe sur le Tour Bus des groupes. Ce dernier est impressionnant, allez hop, première petite photo souvenir !

After a good twenty minutes of walking, we come across the group Tour Bus. Wich is pretty impressive, and then, first little souvenir photo!

On retrouve les copains de notre petit groupe Starset France (Manon, Émiline, Damien et son frère Romain) en train de boire un verre à la terrasse avec Sam et Thomas, tous très content de nous voir arriver. On se pose enfin avec eux avec un verre (au fort prix non-attrayant de Paris, toi même tu sais…) puis on papote tranquillement jusqu’à l’ouverture des barrières pour la session VIP.

We find the friends of our small Starset France group (Manon, Émiline, Damien and his brother Romain) having a drink on the terrace with Sam and Thomas, all very happy to see us arrive. We finally sit down with them with a drink (at the very unattractive price of Paris, even you know...) then we chat quietly until the barriers open for the VIP session.

On se place assez tôt pour être en première ligne et prenons, comme à chaque fois que nous nous retrouvons, la pose pour une photo de groupe avant le concert avec les tous premiers fans arrivés.

We position ourselves early enough to be at the front of the line and, as we do every time we meet, pose for a group photo before the concert with the very first fans arrived.

18h15, le staff vient nous chercher pour scanner nos pass VIP et places de concert tout en nous donnant nos goodies du VIP, à savoir un petit poster cartonné à l’effigie de leur tournée Rated R dédicacé par tout les membres du groupe, et une sorte de « Badge » à lanière VIP.

6:15 p.m., the staff comes to pick us up to scan our VIP passes and concert tickets while giving us our VIP goodies, namely a small cardboard poster bearing the image of their Rated R tour autographed by all the members of the group, and a VIP Laminate.

Sans trop savoir à quoi s’attendre du Petit Bain, on descend des escaliers avant de terminer dans une toute petite salle de concert avec un mini bar. La prise des photos paraissait déjà être compliquée à prendre pour ma mère au vu du faible espace et d’aucun espace pit-photo. Les éclairages et la fumée allaient malheureusement se rajouter à cette difficulté… La régie, posée au centre, était assez conséquente pour l’espace rendant encore plus compliqué la projection d’un bon shooting.

Without really knowing what to expect from the Petit Bain, we go down some stairs before ending up in a very small concert hall with a mini bar. Taking photos already seemed to be complicated for my mother given the limited space and no photo pit space. The lighting and smoke would unfortunately add to this difficulty... The control zone, placed in the center of the place, was quite large for the space, making it even more complicated to project a good shoot.

Ce rajoute à cela une chose étonnante qui n’était encore jamais arrivée : les photos ressortent assombries après transfert sur le live-report. Je sais qu’il y a eu un souci avec LRC et que le transfert à du se faire en PNG au lieu du JPG, en est-ce la raison de cette compression et modification, résolution… nous ne le savons pas trop mais ceux qui veulent les photos originales et donc bien meilleures visuellement, n’hésitez pas à le faire savoir par mail, on vous répondra au mieux ([email protected]).

This adds to this an astonishing thing which has never happened before: the photos come out darker after transfer to the live report. I know that there was a problem with LRC and that the transfer had to be done in PNG instead of JPG, is this the reason for this compression and modification, resolution... we don't really know but Those who want original photos and therefore much better visually, do not hesitate to let them know by email, we will respond as best as possible ([email protected]).

Nous sommes tous très excités et émus (surtout notre chère Émiline qui a connu RED enfant, dès la sortie de leur 1er album « End of Silence » (2006) et qui ne rêvait que de pouvoir enfin les voir!). On discute ensemble un petit bout de temps dans la salle qui contenait 3 tabourets et un cajon devant la scène, préparant l’arrivée de notre groupe tant attendu pour la session acoustique.

We are all very excited and moved (especially our dear Émiline who knew RED as a child, from the release of their first album "End of Silence" (2006) and who only dreamed of finally being able to see them!). We chatted together for a little while in the room which contained 3 stools and a cajon in front of the stage, preparing the arrival of our long-awaited group for the acoustic session.

Environ 18h30, tout les VIP sont descendus, on était 35 au total, puis vient Michael (chanteur) qui se fait acclamer sous un tonnerre d’applaudissements de la foule, et en suis Brian (batteur), Randy (bassiste) et Anthony (guitariste) venant avec sa guitare acoustique.

Around 6:30 p.m., all the VIPs came down, there were 35 of us in total, then came Michael (singer) who was cheered under thunderous applause from the crowd, and followed by Brian (drummer), Randy (bassist) and Anthony (guitarist) coming with his acoustic guitar.

Tous en rang devant eux, à les acclamer, ils ont commencé par un Q&A (qui a d’ailleurs bien dépassé la limite du temps qu’ils avaient!), les fans étaient tous ravis et très émus pour certains. Arrivé la fin du Q&A, se préparant pour la session acoustique, tout le monde s’est assis par terre comme dans une classe de maternelle, ce qui a d’ailleurs drôlement étonné et fait rire le groupe! Ça nous paraissait à tous normal, on est assis au calme, sans déranger la vue de qui que ce soit tout en montrant une marque de respect à chacun. Je dois bien dire chapeau les Français, on a été les seuls à faire ça! (pour une fois que l’on fait quelque chose de bien en ces temps étranges!) 

All lined up in front of them, cheering them on, they started with a Q&A (which actually exceeded the time limit they had!), the fans were all delighted and some were very moved. At the end of the Q&A, preparing for the acoustic session, everyone sat on the floor like in a kindergarten class, which actually surprised and made the group laugh! It seemed normal to all of us, we sat quietly, without disturbing anyone's view while showing a mark of respect to everyone. I have to say hats off to the French, we were the only ones to do that! (for once we're doing something good in these strange times!)

Ils nous annoncent un show de 21 chansons, ça promet!

They're announcing a 21-song show, that's promising!

Il y a eu un très long temps d’échange entre le groupe et les membres du VIP qui avaient beaucoup de questions à poser à RED en même temps, cela faisait plus de 10 ans qu’ils n’étaient pas venus en France !

There was a very long time of discussion between the group and the members of the VIP who had a lot of questions to ask RED at the same time, it had been more than 10 years since they had last come to France!

Le groupe s’apprêtant à nous jouer un morceau en acoustique (normalement il aurait dû y en avoir deux ou trois, mais la limite du temps imparti avait été dépassé par le Q&A), on a eu l’honneur d’entendre « Best Is Yet To Come », qui en aura fait pleurer certains. Ils ont bien assuré!

The group was about to play us an acoustic song (normally there should have been two or three, but the time limit had been exceeded by the Q&A), we had the honor of hearing "Best Is Yet To Come", which will have made some cry. They did well!

Mais malheureusement c’était une des seules que je ne connaissais pas (honte à moi, c’est un peu con sur ce coup là!), puis en a suivi la séance Photo/Dédicace.

But unfortunately it was one of the only ones songs that I didn't know (shame on me, it's a bit stupid in that regard!), then followed the Photo/Dedication session.

RED EN MODE PRIVILEGE

RED IN PRIVILEGE MODE

Tous en rang comme demandé par le Staff, le trac commençait à se faire ressentir de tous, on se regardait tous avec des yeux cachant une panique émotionnelle de « Qu’est ce que je vais dire? Je vais bloquer aled aled »! J’avoue que je me serais attendue à chialer, ce qui finalement n’est pas arrivé, même pas une larme! Les choses auraient sûrement été, cela dit, bien différentes en d’autres conditions et temps!

All lined up as requested by the Staff, everyone was beginning to feel nervous, we all looked at each other with eyes hiding an emotional panic of "What am I going to say? I'm going to block help help"! I admit that I would have expected to cry, which ultimately didn't happen, not even a tear! Things would surely have been, that said, very different in other conditions and times!

Ma mère ayant demandé au préalable au Staff de RED par mail si je pouvais emmener une guitare pour la faire dédicacer, ces derniers ayant répondu fort positivement avec un « Yes, no problem 🙂 », eh bah du coup j’ai amené ma petite PRS avec moi, les cordes en moins, de manière à pouvoir la faire signer au centre (et nourrir son bois au passage!). Forcément, dès le début avant même de rentrer en salle, patientant dans la file, j’attisais la curiosité d’autrui, me demandant si je pouvais leurs montrer ma guitare.

My mother having previously asked the RED Staff by email if I could bring a guitar to have it signed, they having responded very positively with a "Yes, no problem :)", well, so I brought my little PRS with me, minus the ropes, so that I can make it sign in the center (and feed its wood in the process!). Obviously, from the start, before even entering the room, waiting in line, I aroused the curiosity of others, asking me if I could show them my guitar.

Je prépare ma guitare et son marqueur, une fois mon tour, ils l’avaient tous bien vu dès le début de la session acoustique, ils semblaient très heureux et honorés d’avoir une guitare à dédicacer, j’ai bien entendu saluer le groupe à mon approche avant de m’orienter vers Anthony afin qu’il dédicace en premier la guitare (ça me paraît plus logique que ce soit le guitariste qui signe une guitare non? :)), ce dernier me demandant où, je lui montre l’espace entre les deux doubles-micros lui disant que je voulais la signature ici. Il m’a fait un petit dessin tout mignon d’un crâne, en prenant tout son temps et s’appliquant au mieux pour ne pas se louper, avant de la signer après sur le corps, suivis de la dédicace de Brian, Michael et Randy en dessous de la sienne. Puis photo tous ensemble! Je range ma guitare cette dernière sèche, puis part rejoindre les autres au premier rang. L’avantage du Petit Bain, c’est qu’on peut stocker nos affaires sous la scène, c’est d’ailleurs là que ma guitare à finie!

I prepare my guitar and its marker, once my turn, they had all seen it clearly from the start of the acoustic session, they seemed very happy and honored to have a guitar to sign, I of course greeted the group as I approach before directing myself towards Anthony so that he can sign the guitar first (it seems more logical to me that it is the guitarist who signs a guitar, right? :)), asking me where, I show him the space between the two dual-mics, right where I imaginated the signature. He made a cute little drawing of a skull, taking all his time and doing his best not to mess it up, before signing it afterwards on the guitar body, followed by the dedication of Brian, Michael and Randy below his. Then photo all together! I stored back my guitar once the autographs have dried, then leaves to join the others in the front row. The advantage of the Petit Bain is that we can store our things under the stage, that's also where my guitar ended up !

Ouverture des portes vers 19h15-30, tout le monde descend, on discute entre nous, on rigole bien et on ne voit pas trop le temps passer, à un moment on se retourne et voit que la salle est blindée!

Doors open around 7:15-30 p.m., everyone comes down, we chat among ourselves, we have a good laugh and we don't really see the time passing, at one point we turn around and see that the room is packed!

PREMIERE PARTIE : LANSDOWNE

PART ONE: LANSDOWNE

Une fois le public en place, les lumières se sont baissées et on a eu la joie d’accueillir LANSDOWNE en première partie! Ce petit groupe de rock Américain originaire de Boston (Michigan) joue maintenant depuis un paquet de temps, à savoir 2006 également. On pouvait déjà voir la setlist avant même qu’ils ne commencent, il n’y avait « que » 9 chansons, mais ça promettait du lourd! Ils arrivent comme des bêtes sur scène, sautant, hurlant, débordant d’énergie et prêt à faire sauter toute la foule, ce que nous avons tous fait tellement nous étions emportés par le rythme endiablé.

Once the audience was in place, the lights were dimmed and we had the joy of welcoming LANSDOWNE as the opening act! This small American rock group from Boston (Michigan) has been playing for a long time now, also in 2006. We could already see the setlist before they even started, there were "only" 9 songs, but it promised to be heavy! They arrive like animals on stage, jumping, screaming, full of energy and ready to make the whole crowd jump, which we all did because we were so carried away by the frenzied rhythm.

Ils commencent par nous jouer « Conquer Them All », faisant crier et sauter tout le monde d’entrée de jeu. La péniche en a tangué plus d’une fois ! En scrutant un peu tout le monde, je constate que l’un des guitaristes, Josh Waterman, a exactement la même guitare que celle que j’ai ramenée en dédicace!

They start by playing "Conquer Them All", making everyone scream and jump from the start. The barge rocked more than once! Looking around at everyone, I noticed that one of the guitarists, Josh Waterman, has exactly the same guitar as the one I brought back for signing!

Puis en a suivi « Drag Me Down », où en plein milieu de la chanson, ma mère étant devenue complètement folle de Glenn Mungo (batteur) et de son énergie débordante, lui fait des signes pour lui faire comprendre qu’elle adore et qu’il gère super bien, avant que ce dernier lève une baguette enjoué en mode « Tu la veux? », ma mère complètement dingue fait des « oui » avec ses mains, le batteur lui lance fièrement sa baguette qu’elle réceptionne. Ça y est, sa soirée était refaite et sa préférence largement affichée, cela se verra sur le nombre de photos qu’elle a faite de Glenn. En même temps, elle apprend la batterie alors forcément, Môman craque pour les batteurs ahahah… En tout cas, ce gars est juste génial, clairement, vous allez comprendre pourquoi par la suite.

Then followed "Drag Me Down", where in the middle of the song, my mother having gone completely crazy about Glenn Mungo (drummer) and his boundless energy, made signs to him to make him understand that she adores him and that he's nailing it, before he playfully raises one of his drumstick in a "Do you want it?" way, my completely crazy mother made huges "yes" with her hands, the drummer proudly throws her his drumstick which she receives. That's it, her evening was like a dream and her preference widely displayed, this will be seen in the number of photos she took of Glenn. At the same time, she's learning the drums so obviously, Mômma has a (huge) crush on drummers ahahah... In any case, this guy is just amazing, clearly, you'll understand why later.

Arrive « Medicine », à mon goût une de leurs meilleures chansons. J’étais bien loin d’avoir toutes les paroles par cœur mais c’était bien cool, puis vers la fin de la musique, le guitariste Shaun Lichtenstein me regarde et me donne son médiator à la main tout joyeux! Bah merci! C’était un moment sacrément intense ! Peu de temps après, Shaun a voulu faire un Guitar Swing mais la place sur scène étant relativement prise par la grosse batterie de RED derrière, ils avaient tous peu de place. Du coup, au moment de lancer sa guitare, cette dernière a tapé dans son micro qui a valsé sur Manon, c’est passé à peine à 10cm d’elle! Il s’est senti tout con mais heureusement il n’y a pas eu de dégât, à vrai dire ça nous a plus fait marrer qu’autre chose ahaha.

“Medicine” arrives, in my opinion one of their best songs. I was far from having all the lyrics by heart but it was really cool, then towards the end of the music, the guitarist Shaun Lichtenstein looks at me and happily gives me his pick in hand! Welp, thank you! It was a really intense moment! Shortly after, Shaun wanted to do a Guitar Swing but the space on stage being relatively taken up by the big RED drums behind, they all had little space. So, when throwing his guitar, this one hit hit microphone which waltzed over Manon, it passed barely 10cm from her! He felt clumpsy but fortunately, there was no damage. And to be honest, it made us laugh more than anything else ahaha.

Pendant tout ce temps, le bassiste Mike Laroche a super bien performé mais un peu en arrière scène jusqu’à mi concert. Nous avons tous pu profiter de son talent quand il s’est rapprocher du public qui en a bien profité ! La scène est vraiment trop petite pour un groupe aussi énergique, il faut que l’on puisse les revoir dans une grande salle ! L’invitation est lancée, venez à Nantes nous avons ce qu’il faut pour vous accueillir !!!

During all this time, bassist Mike Laroche performed really well but a little away from the front part of the scene until mid-concert. We were all able to benefit from his talent when he got closer to the public who took full advantage of it! The stage is really too small for such an energetic group, we have to be able to see them again in a big room! The invitation is extended, come to Nantes we have what it takes to welcome you!!!

Ils ont enchaîné avec « Halo » et « Savage », inutile de dire que le public était bien chaud et à fond, un groupe pareil ça dépote! Le micro qui avait été envoyé valsé auparavant, a d’ailleurs tenté de s’évader de nouveau par lui-même sur « Halo »! (bon il s’est pété la gueule quoi).

They continued with "Halo" and "Savage", needless to say that the audience was very excited and still fulfilled of energy to spread! A band like this, is a total blast! The microphone which had been sent waltzing before, actually tried to escape again by itself on "Halo"! (well, it just fell on its own in such a hilarious way).

Le chanteur Jon Ricco a pris un peu de temps avant de lancer « Falling Down », prenant une parole consciente évoquant la dépression et ce genre de merde, expliquant qu’il a été dans cette phase au moment où il avait écrit ces textes, nous disant de ne jamais laisser tomber et que si un jour on ne va pas bien ou qu’on se lève avec un moral faible, de ne pas attendre, de ne pas laisser la chose s’installer et de parler, ou envoyer un message à quelqu’un pour nous aider et retrouver le moral.

Vocalist Jon Ricco took some time before launching into "Falling Down," speaking consciously about depression and that kind of shit, explaining that he was in that phase when he wrote those lyrics, so we saying to never give up and that if one day we are not well or wake up with low morale, not to wait, not to let things settle in and to talk, or send a message to someone to help us and cheer us up.

Ils commencent à annoncer la fin de leur show puis continuent sans s’arrêter sur « Oxygen », on s’approche doucement la fin de leur concert, ils décident de nous jouer en finale « Watch Me Burn » et « One Shot » pour terminer le tout en beauté! Ce qui a d’ailleurs bien marché, le public était bien chaud, bien préparé à accueillir RED! (du moins, pour ceux à qui ils restaient de la voix ahaha).

They start to announce the end of their show then continue without stopping on "Oxygen", we are slowly approaching the end of their concert, they decide to play us "Watch Me Burn" and "One Shot" in the finale to finish all in beauty! Which actually worked well, the crowd was very excited, well prepared to welcome RED! (at least, for those whose voice remained ahaha).

Au moment de saluer le public, Glenn s’approche de ma mère pour lui faire un check mais cela s’est finalement terminé par un gros câlin, elle n’oubliera pas cette fabuleuse rencontre, ça c’est sûr !

When greeting the public, Glenn approached my mother to check on her but it ultimately ended with a big hug, she won't forget this fabulous meeting, that's for sure!

RED ENVAHIT LA SCÈNE

RED INVADES THE STAGE

On a patienté une petite vingtaine de minutes avant que les lumières s’éteignent de nouveau et que des grosses basses se font ressentir avant d’entendre une musique se prêtant à « Surrogate ». Nous laissant dans une montée de tension intense, prêt à voir RED surgir d’un coup, et ça ne loupe pas. Le groupe fonce sur la scène et commence à sauter dans tout les sens avant de saluer la foule hurlante!

We waited about twenty minutes before the lights went out again and big basses were felt, before hearing a music kind of very suitable for "Surrogate". Leaving us in an intense build-up of tension, ready to see RED suddenly appear, and it doesn't miss. The group rushes onto the stage and starts jumping in all directions to greet the screaming crowd!

Ils sont acclamés par le public qui ne se retient pas, tant vocalement que physiquement puisque la péniche tangue à nouveau!

They are cheered by the public who do not hold back, both vocally and physically since the barge is rocking once again!

La première chose qu’Anthony a fait en montant sur scène, c’est de venir me faire un check. Il m’a très probablement reconnue… C’est tout l’avantage du premier rang même si des fois, on se brise les cervicales à garder la tête trop relevée comme ce fut malheureusement le cas dans la salle de la Machine du Moulin pour Smash Into Pieces.

The first thing Anthony did when he got on stage, was come and check me out. He most likely recognized me... That's the advantage of being in the front row, even if sometimes you break your neck keeping your head too high, as was unfortunately the case in La Machine du Moulin. for Smash Into Pieces.

Ça envoie du lourd dès les premiers titres où « Infidel » et « Lie to me » ont été repris en coeur par le public, criant les paroles le plus fort possible!

It's going heavy as hell, already from the first titles where "Infidel" and "Lie to me" were taken up heartily by the public, screaming out loud the lyrics!

À un moment, vers la fin de « Let Go », Randy a lancé son médiator en me visant, malheureusement j’ai eu des mains au-dessus de moi et le médiator a ricoché sur ma main avant de tomber par terre, et de se faire récupérer par quelqu’un d’autre. Je n’étais pas trop inquiète sur le fait d’en récupérer un, ils se souvenaient de moi et de ma gratte, je n’aurai qu’à eu à demander et ils m’en auraient probablement donné un à la fin, ce qui a d’ailleurs été le cas! J’en ai même eu deux, tiens!

At one point, towards the end of "Let Go", Randy threw his pick at me, unfortunately some hands were above me and the pick ricocheted off my hand before falling to the ground, and be picked up by someone else. I wasn't too worried about getting one back, the show has just begun and I supposed that they remembered me and my guitar, Like anyone else, I would just had to ask and they would probably have given me one in the end, which was actually the case! I even got two, hey!

Michael est un vrai zébulon, il saute partout et n’hésite pas à grimper sur les plates formes posées sur l’avant scène pour sauter depuis cette structure, où il est régulièrement rejoint par Anthony et Randy qui nous offre un spectacle musical qui déchire.

Michael is a real zebulon, he jumps everywhere and does not hesitate to climb on the platforms placed on the front of the stage to jump from this structure, where he is regularly joined by Anthony and Randy who offer us a musical show that rocks.

Malheureusement, compressés comme des sardines en boîtes, il nous est impossible de bouger et c’est donc la même pour ma mère qui tente en vain de s’extirper du premier rang pour changer d’angle. C’est la première fois où le public joue moins le jeu de faire un minima de place à la photographe. Il n’y avait d’ailleurs étrangement qu’une autre personne pour faire des photos qui elle, ne s’est pas faite très gentiment vu l’accès fortement compromis par manque de compréhension et d’empathie des fans. Il est bon de rappeler que les photographes n’ont que les trois premières chansons pour figer l’évènement qui agrémente les live-report que vous, public, apprécié (ou pas) de lire et de préciser que nous sommes « que » des bénévoles pour faire les photos et écrire les live-report. Je ne sais pas pour les autres mais ma mère fait toujours très attention au public et se fait toujours discrète pour gêner le moins possible la vue des fans. Elle a même proposé à un femme bien plus petite qu’elle de prendre sa place au premier rang pour qu’elle profite mieux du spectacle. Peut-être faut-il leur dire que nous aussi finalement, nous payons nos places par respect pour les artistes et que nous n’abusons pas de nos accréditations photos et presse.

Unfortunately, compressed like sardines in cans, it is impossible for us to move and so it is the same for my mother who tries in vain to extricate herself from the front row to change angle. This is the first time where the public plays less the game of making a minimum of space for the photographers. Strangely enough, there was only one other person to take photos, wich was not done very kindly given the access highly compromised due to a lack of understanding and empathy from the fans. It is good to remember that the photographers only have the first three songs to capture the event which enhances the live-reports that you, the public, enjoy (or not) reading and to specify that we are “only” volunteers to take the photos and write the live reports. I don't know about the others but my mother always pays close attention to the public and is always discreet to obstruct the view of the fans as little as possible. She even asked a woman much smaller than her to take her place in the front row if she wanted to so that she could better enjoy the show. Perhaps we should tell them that we also ultimately pay for our tickets out of respect for the artists and that we do not abuse our photo and press accreditations.

C’est dans une ambiance survoltée autour de « The war we made » et avec son naturel jovial que ma mère arrive finalement à se frayer un petit chemin pour d’autres angles de vue mais elle me confiera avoir renoncer à des vues éloignées de scène globale, ne voulant pas déranger le public et la configuration de la salle ne permettait pas de le faire sans gêner les gens, ce que ma mère refuse de faire.

It's in a supercharged atmosphere around "The war we made" and with her jovial nature that my mother finally manages to clear a path for other viewing angles but she will tell me that she has given up on distant views of the stage overall, not wanting to disturb the public and the configuration of the room did not allow to do so without disturbing people, which my mother refuses to do.

Brian, trop souvent dans des lumières peu propices aux photos et caché derrière un voile de fumée récurrent et dense, (dommage pour les photos) fait tournoyer non stop ses baguettes de manière assez spectaculaire et impressionnante sur les rythmes de « Your devil is a ghost » ou encore de « Already Over ».

Brian, too often in lights unsuitable for photos and behind a thick veil of recurring smoke (too bad for photos) twirls his sticks in a very spectacular and impressive way non-stop to the rhythms of "Your devil is a ghost" or even "Already Over" .

On aura eu l’honneur et la chance d’entendre une reprise de « Shadows » en acoustique, surprenant et totalement inattendu, les larmes auront coulées plus d’une fois ce soir! Une reprise magnifique permettant d’offrir une courte pause à RED qui nous avait déjà enchaîné 16 chansons non-stop à sauter dans tous les sens comme des bêtes, mais également de redescendre un peu en excitation pour mieux repartir derrière. Et ça n’a pas loupé, une fois la chanson terminée, à la fin des retentissement des applaudissement de la foule émue, ça repart de plus belle brutalement sur « Minus It All » laissant la foule dans des cris impossibles à contenir!

We will have had the honor and the chance to hear an acoustic version of "Shadows", surprising and totally unexpected, tears will have flowed more than once this evening! A magnificent version allowing RED to take a short break, who had already given us 16 songs non-stop jumping everywhere like freaks, but also to come down a little in excitement to better start again behind. And it didn't fail, once the song is over, at the end of the resounding applause of the moved crowd, it suddenly starts again with "Minus It All" leaving the crowd in screams impossible to contain!

Au final, il y aura eu 18 chansons contre les 21 annoncées lors de la séance VIP… Un peu triste de ce temps raccourci qui est du, je suppose, au temps limite qui avait été dépassé (très certainement à cause du Q&A VIP). J’ai été quand même assez surprise de ne pas avoir entendu « Darkest Part » qui, je trouve, est une de leurs plus connues, appréciées et demandées. Peut être que l’on aurait dû l’avoir en acoustique, ce qui explique les 3 chansons « manquantes », et l’unique chanson en acoustique contre les 3 attendues. Quoi qu’il en soit, cela restera un concert de folie rempli en émotions et excitation. Et surtout en sacré gros paquets de souvenirs de malade!

In the end, there were 18 songs compared to the 21 announced during the VIP session... A little sad about this shortened time which is due, I suppose, to the time limit which had been exceeded (most certainly because of the VIP Q&A) . I was still quite surprised not to have heard "Darkest Part" which, I find, is one of their most well-known, appreciated and requested. Maybe we should have had it in acoustic, which explains the 3 "missing" songs, and the only one acoustic song compared to the 3 expected. Whatever happens, it will remain a crazy concert filled with emotions and excitement. And above all, a hell of a lot of sick souvenirs!

À la fin, Anthony et Randy ont envoyé leurs médiators dans la foule, Anthony m’en a également donné un à la main à la fin de leur concert ! Puis Brian est venu avec ses baguettes et les a distribuées avec les setlists juste avant qu’Anthony ne vide deux petites bouteilles d’eau en jet sur la foule (Dieu merci, pas sur ceux des premiers rangs).

At the end, Anthony and Randy threw their guitar picks into the crowd, Anthony also gave me one by hand at the end of their concert! Then Brian came over with his drumsticks and handed them out with the setlists just before Anthony spilled in jet, two small bottles of water over the crowd (thank goodness, no one bin the front row was wet!).

Le concert est passé à une vitesse incroyable, on avait l’impression que cela avait à peine commencé qu’il fallait déjà se quitter. Il faut dire que depuis le nombre d’années qu’ils étaient attendus et espérés…

The concert went by at an incredible speed, we had the impression that it had barely started that we already had to leave. It must be said that for the number of years they were expected and hoped for...

Nous avons été tous ravis de les voir se déchaîner sur scène et nous nous rappellerons tous du guitar swing qu’Anthony à fait vers la fin du show car lui, il n’a pas tapé le micro! (en même temps, il n’y en avait pas ahahah!)

We were all delighted to see them let loose on stage and we will all remember the guitar swing that Anthony did towards the end of the show because at least he, didn't hit the microphone! (at the same time, there were none ahahah!)

En quelques minutes la salle s’était étrangement bien vidée, et peu de temps après, Brian et Anthony sont venus s’asseoir sur les rebords de la scène pour une séance photo/dédicace/chatting personnelle, c’était super cool de leur part!

In a few minutes the room was strangely empty, and a short time later, Brian and Anthony came and sat on the edges of the stage for a photo session/signing/personal chat, it was super cool of them !

À ce moment-là, j’ai récupéré un autre médiator qu’Anthony venait de me jeter, il a fini dédicacé et j’ai eu droit a une petite photo avec lui! Il a pris quelques minutes pour me parler, me demandant si j’allais remettre des cordes sur ma guitare et continuer de jouer avec, tout en me disant de ne jamais rien lâcher et que si j’arrive à jouer de leurs musiques, de lui envoyer sur Instagram et tout, pour que, je cite : « la prochaine fois tu montes sur scène et tu joues avec nous », je doute fort que cela se produise réellement mais bon, qui sait! :’)…

At that moment, I picked up another pick that Anthony had just thrown at me, he ended up autographed and I got a little photo with him! He took a few minutes to talk to me, asking me if I was going to put the strings back on my guitar and continue playing with it, and telling me to never give up and that if I manage to play any of their music, to send him on Instagram or else, so that, I quote: "next time you go on stage and play with us", I very much doubt that that will actually happen but hey, who knows! :')...

Ils sont vraiment tous au top, ils sont super gentils, humains, drôles, ouverts… En bref, des musiciens comme on les aime et comme on espère voir! Accessibles et humbles, ils reflètent ce que la musique est en premier lieu : un partage. Et en parlant de partage, vous trouverez en fin du live-report, des liens pour découvrir nos deux super groupes!

They are all really at the top, they are super nice, human, funny, open... In short, musicians like we love them and like we hope to see! Accessible and humble, they reflect what music is in the first place: sharing. And by talking of sharing, you will find links at the end of the live report to discover these two awesome bands!

UN PETIT TOUR AU MERCH

A LITTLE TOUR AT THE MERCH

On s’approche du stand merch de LANSDOWNE qui est juste à côté de celui de RED (ce dernier était bien vide d’ailleurs, il n’y avait même pas de CD 🙁 )… Dévalisé, mauvaise gestion de stock…? Du coup dommage car je n’ai pas pu en acheter un et franchement, le faire venir depuis leur site officiel avec les frais de port et les taxes de douane, ça fait un CD à 45€ donc bon…

We approach the LANSDOWNE merch stand which is right next to the RED one (the latter was quite empty, there wasn't even any disc 🙁 )... Robbed, poor stock management. ..? So it's a bit sad to me, because I couldn't buy one and frankly, getting it from their official site with shipping costs plus customs taxes, that's a 45€ disc so uh...

On retrouve le groupe LANSDOWNE au complet, ainsi que celui de la Starset France. Ma mère retrouve « son » batteur Glenn, elle partait faire dédicacer sa baguette qu’il lui a lancé et acheter leur CD qu’ils ont tous dédicacé. Glenn lui a même offert un poster et un sticker en plus !

We find the entire LANSDOWNE group, as well as that of Starset France. My mother found "her" drummer Glenn, she was going to have the drumstick which he threw to her signed, and buy their disc which they all signed. Glenn even gave her a poster and an extra sticker!

Une fois le merch clôturé, on s’est tapé une super séance avec eux de photo et une grosse session de chatting. Ce fut un moment incroyable de part la personnalité de chacun et leur envie de partager ces moments uniques avec nous.

Once the merch was closed, we had a great photo session with them and a big chatting session. It was an incredible moment because of everyone's personality and their desire to share these unique moments with us.

Une fois terminé, on les laisse pour ne pas les coller et on part en direction de la terrasse pour prendre un verre tous ensemble, on se pose et discute, on refait le concert les étoiles dans les yeux.

Once finished, we leave them so don't stay stick to them and we head towards the terrace to have a drink together, we sit down and chat, we do the concert again with stars in our eyes.

On a pu voir Michael repartir avec sa valise dans son Tour Bus, il passait complètement inaperçu, il était devenu comme un citoyen lambda. Il nous a salué de la main en descendant le ponton du Petit Bain. Le contraste scène/vie de tous les jours, est assez flagrant je dois dire! 

We could see Michael leaving with his suitcase heading to their Tour Bus, he went completely unnoticed, he had become like an average citizen. He waved to us as he descended the Petit Bain pontoon. The contrast between scene and everyday life is quite obvious, I must say!

Puis à un moment, qui voit-on arriver??!! Glenn, le batteur de LANSDOWNE est sorti pour se prendre un truc au bar, on lui fait signe d’au revoir une dernière fois, et finalement, il vient vers nous et tranquillement le voilà qui s’installe à notre table! La discussion allait bon train, les échanges étaient fluides et sur tous les sujets jusqu’à ce que Glenn donne sa date de naissance qui est le même jour que celle de Marion (sauf l’année ahahah).

Then at some point, who do we see arriving??!! Glenn, the drummer of LANSDOWNE, went out to get something at the bar, we waved goodbye to him one last time, and finally, he came towards us and quietly sat down at our table! The discussion was going well, the exchanges were fluid and on all subjects until Glenn gave his date of birth which is the same day as Marion's (except the year ahahah).

Les autres membres du groupe nous également rejoint mais n’ont pu s’attarder. Nous avons quand même pu sympathisé et papoté pas mal de temps. C’était juste incroyable et génial, il nous a même fièrement montré ses vidéos du Graspop où il a été récemment (ils y ont joué le jeudi 20 juin).

The other members of the group also joined us but could not linger. We were still able to get along and chat for quite a while. It was just amazing and awesome, he even proudly showed us his videos from the Graspop where he was recently (they played there on Thursday June 20th).

Au moment de se quitter (ce qui semblait assez impossible et dur pour tous), il a tenu à faire une photo de notre groupe qu’il a, par la suite, publié sur les réseaux et laisser une petite vidéo pour Mad Breizh Production!

When it was time to leave (which seemed quite impossible and hard for everyone), he really wanted to take a photo of our group which he subsequently published on the networks and made a short video for Mad Breizh Production!

La séparation était assez déchirante je dois dire, il est des fins qu’ils ne devraient pas y avoir…

LE TRISTE RETOUR
THE SAD GOING BACK

Une très courte nuit d’hôtel, nous avons voulu faire une visite à la Tour Eiffel. Si d’entrée de jeu, on s’était dit à 35€ la montée par personne pour aller en haut de la Dame de Fer c’était hors de question (ils ne se mouchent pas avec du sopalin! à ce prix là, je paye ma place de concert pour Calogéro en décembre) on s’est rabattu sur au moins se poser dans les jardins aux pieds du monument hautement sécurisé par des accès digne d’un aéroport. Et en parlant d’accès, c’est une fois arrivées à la fouille où on dépose toutes les affaires qui sont scrupuleusement contrôlées par deux vigiles que l’on s’est fait refuser l’accès aux jardins pour le motif « interdiction d’y aller avec un instrument de musique ». Sans commentaire…

A very short night in the hotel, we wanted to make a visit to the Eiffel Tower. If from the outset, we surprisingly learn that it would cost €35 per person to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower, that was out of the question! (At that price, I'd rather pay my concert ticket for Calogéro in December!) We fell back on at least going in the gardens at the foot of the highly secure monument with access worthy of an airport. And speaking of access, it was once we arrived at the search where we deposited all the belongings which were scrupulously checked by two security guards, that we were refused access to the gardens for the reason of "prohibition of go there with a musical instrument". No comment...

On se pose sur le pont d’Iéna le temps de souffler et de shooter médiocrement à contre jour la structure métallique de 330 mètres de haut où grouille des revendeurs brandissant ses petites sœurs Made in China aux touristes.

We land on the Jena Bridge for a while to take a breath, and take a mediocre pic against the light of the 330 meter high metal structure where the square is teeming with resellers exhibiting its little Made in China sisters to tourists.

On retourne vers la gare Montparnasse pour manger une salade dans le jardin Atlantique où des « Hommes Pressés » comme dirait Bertrand Cantat, s’étalent outrageusement dans des discussions surfaciques. Deux mondes entre celui d’hier soir et celui-ci… Je sais où est ma place… Mon regard a donc très vite dévié de ces bipèdes au profit d’un Geai des Chênes peu farouche en quête de nourriture.

We return to Montparnasse station to eat a salad in the Atlantic garden where men in a hurry, spread out outrageously in shallow discussions. Two worlds between the one from last night and this one... I know where my place is... My gaze quickly deviated from these bipeds in favor of a friendly European Jay in search of food.

L’Heure du train approche, il est temps de rentrer. Le voyage fut assez pénible à cause d’une ruminante assise derrière moi qui n’a eu de cesse de mâcher son chewing-gum nerveusement et sans aucune discrétion. Notre ami et voisin nous attendait pour nous ramener de la gare, et une fois chez moi, j’ai réuni mes affaires et celles de ma mère ensemble et j’ai remarqué que son badge VIP ne brillait pas comme le mien, j’ai demandé à mon groupe d’Amis de Starset France si le leur avait une sorte de revêtement holographique et ils m’ont répondu que non! Je crois que j’ai encore eu une chance assez incroyable sur ce coup là, c’est un peu comme avoir eu le ticket d’or! 

Train time is approaching, it's time to go home. The trip was quite difficult because of a ruminating woman sitting behind me who kept chewing her gum nervously and without any discretion. Our friend and neighbor, was waiting to take us back from the train station, and once home, I gathered my and my mother's belongings together and noticed that her VIP badge didn't shine like mine. I asked the group of Starset France friends if theirs had some sort of holographic coating and they said no! I think I had some pretty incredible luck once again on this one, it's a bit like having got the golden ticket!

Afin de prolonger cette ambiance, j’ai décidé de prendre ma guitare et de m’offrir, vous offrir, « ce petit morceau »Darkest Part » de RED que j’interprète avec ma PRS Holcomb dédicacée avec un clin d’oeil à la fin de la vidéo.

In order to prolong this atmosphere, I decided to take my guitar and offer myself, offer you, "Darkest Part" of RED that I perform with my signed PRS Holcomb with a special thing at the end!

Quelle aventure ! Et dire qu’elle a faillit ne pas se faire comme espéré… En effet, nous avons eu vraiment un gros suspens sur la possibilité d’avoir l’accréditation. Ma mère refusait de baisser les bras pendant que je me résignais pour ne pas être plus déçue que ce que je ne l’étais déjà. En effet, être dans le doute peu grandement s’apparenter à un refus. Des relances ont été faites, je voulais tellement pouvoir faire ce live report, cela représente tellement pour moi… Nous avons été accréditée une semaine avant !!! Alors je tiens a très sincèrement à remercier Monsieur LEFEBVRE de Base Productions d’avoir donné son accord et qui m’a permis de réaliser un rêve de plus. Merci pour sa patience sur notre acharnement !

What an adventure ! And to think that it almost didn't happen as hoped... Indeed, we really had a lot of suspense over the possibility of having press accreditations. My mother refused to give up while I resigned myself to not being more disappointed than I already was. Indeed, being in doubt can hardly be compared to a refusal. Reminders were made, I really wanted to be able to do this live report, it means so much to me... We were accredited a week before!!! So I would like to very sincerely thank Mr. LEFEBVRE from Base Productions for giving his agreement and allowing me to realize one more dream.Thank you for your patience with our persistence!

Je remercie énormément Léa de MAD BREIZH PRODUCTION pour tout son travail dans nos demandes d’accréditation. Elle nous a toujours soutenues et ne ménage pas ses efforts pour nous obtenir nos sésames photos et presse pour vous relater en live report nos évènements.
